The Different Filters In Your Automobile

Outwest Auto Tire & Repair is going to talk about the various filters in automobiles in this blog post. We can take care of your filter maintenance to make sure that your vehicle is always running efficiently. Clogged filters, especially clogged air and fuel filters, can cause your engine to run inefficiently and burn more fuel. Let’s talk more about the different filters in automobile engines below.

Air

Your vehicle needs an air filter to filter out the dirt and debris in the air that flows through the grille. This filter needs to be changed every 12,000 miles. If you are someone who does not do a lot of driving, you should make sure to have the filter changed once a year. As we mentioned above, if the air filter gets clogged, you will notice a lag in your engine performance and a reduction in the fuel economy.

Cabin

It’s important to note that not every vehicle has a cabin filter in the passenger cabin. Some automobiles have permanent netting that never needs to be changed. If your vehicle has a cabin air filter, it will say so in the owner’s manual. The owner’s manual will also recommend the proper changing interval. Otherwise, the general recommendation for changing the cabin air filter is every 30,000 miles.

Fuel

The fuel filter makes sure that the fuel is completely clean before it is burned in the combustion chamber. The fuel filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. In fact, the fuel system should be serviced every 30,000 miles. If you ignore the need for a fuel system service, you run the risk of damaging the fuel pump prematurely because the fuel filter will get clogged.

Oil

One filter that you never have to think about is the oil filter. The reason why is that the oil filter is changed automatically when you have the oil changed in the engine. As such, depending on the type of oil you use, the oil filter gets switched out for a new one every 3,000 miles or 5,000 miles.

Transmission

Finally, you will also need to check your owner’s manual to see if your transmission has a filter. Not all transmissions do. If yours does, it probably needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. Your owner’s manual will list the specific mileage interval at which the filter should be changed.
